Volunteering

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the New England Relay! Your participation as a volunteer should be an enjoyable experience. In fact, the volunteers have just as much fun as the runners! It is only with your help that we can put on a successful event, as well as benefit our charity partners. Each volunteer can select a charity of his or her choice to send $75 to!

General Description
The New England Relay is being held on Saturday June 22nd at 5am and Sunday June 23rd at 4pm. The relay route is 220 miles across rural, suburban, and urban areas. It crosses 6 states (RI, CT, MA, VT, NH, and ME), and goes for ~30 hours. A volunteer's assignment could be anywhere along the route and at any time. Time commitment will be approximately 4 hours, and you will usually be working with 1-2 other volunteers. We will provide most of the materials necessary, but volunteers will be asked to provide a few items as well (such as a flashlight).

Volunteer Responsibilities
We provide training in advance of the event through a planned meeting and/or conference call, plus a volunteer handbook. Volunteer duties may include:

  • Setting up and taking down turn signs on the course
  • Checking teams in at the start
  • Directing and assisting team vehicles for parking
  • Recording team numbers and clock times as runners enter the relay exchange area
  • Assist in final clean up of site, including removing signage and trash

All Volunteers

  • Must sign a waiver of liability
  • Are responsible for their own transportation to and from their designated transition assignment
